That boxer is so pretty! She should get her fixed before going to a new home... otherwise she could end up victim to someone that just wants to get her for breeding.

I actually respond to the ads myself and give them names of rescues... Even if they're not close. I know that MNBR (Minnesota) and GABR (Wisconsin) transport dogs across the country just to make sure Boxers get into the right homes. Most of the time the people aren't mad, they just don't know any better. Most respond with a thank you believe it or not! Not to say it doesn't PISS ME OFF, and if all they're looking for is money, it's not going to help, but I'd rather try to give them some info than see a precious Boxer like the one in this ad go to a bad home :( She sure is beautiful, darn it.
also, just by replying to a craigslist ad, I was able to pull two Boxers myself out of animal control and got them into rescue... (A guy found a Boxer, placed ads, was unable to keep him in his apartment and had to take him to AC. When I went to pull the original Boxer, there was another one there as well and rescue took him too! :)

Actually, many people feel their pets are a member of their family, one of their "furkids". People such as myself actually, so it would be like getting rid of a family member to me.
If you consider lack of time, too destructive, had a baby, moved, to be good and legit reasons to get rid of a dog (these are 90% of the excuses given)then you should reconsider getting one to begin with. These are poor excuses and these can be overcome with a little effort, but many people don't want to put forth the effort. Dogs are not disposable items to be tossed aside when they become a burden. They can't talk and say how they feel, they can't take themselves to the doctor, can't fill their own food bowls and pour their own water. They are TOTALLY dependent on their owners and deserve to be taken care of and loved no matter what.
And, we used to have residential rental property. Kids can actually be more destructive than animals. We had holes in the wall from thrown items, ink on the walls from them drawing pictures, stains on the carpet from spilled koolaid that wouldn't come up, etc. We thought we were renting to decent people too, they didn't look like trash and appeared to be clean and tidy. So, in many instances I'd rather have a well trained dog in my house than an unsupervised and undisciplined child. In many instances, if you talk to property owners and let them meet your dogs (assuming they are potty trained and not destructive) they will consider letting you keep them in their rental.
I actually sent an email to this lady with the dog on craigslist giving her suggestions on how she could keep her boxer. I find it a poor excuse also. I'm sure there is a park or area somewhere she could take the dog to for running and exercise. Even two good walks a day would do. They adapt very nicely if given a chance. That is just an excuse for not wanting to take the time to try.

Hmmmm...maybe not in 'BFE' Missouri...but, I've known MANY places that don't allow children, for good reasons...Like RaShann stated, I've seen damage like no other when it comes to children...coloring on the walls, in vehicles, stains beyond belief on carpets, etc....and in my opinion, my dogs are just as important as my child. So STOP saying there's no equating because there is, obviously not with you. You made it perfectly clear what your priorities are. You look down on me because I do equate..well, I look down on people like you because you don't. And I don't respect people with the 'easy come, easy go' motto for the animals in their lives. Love is love is love..in my opinion...the greater for all things, the better. And you bet your ass I'd do everything in my power to keep my dogs, my children, my everything with me, no matter what. Back to rentals...I've had a couple rental properties, and I've always allowed pets because I consider pets a valued part of the family... and have never had any problems as far as the pets go...but I'll never rent to people with small children..so And unlike you, I find most of the craig'slist excuses for getting rid of their pets, just...well, just cruel.

Everyday I see street kids in NYC living on the streets with their dogs (often puppies). Those dogs break my heart, but I know they are happy with their people, and their people would be miserable without them. I don't think any of them give a shit about having a yard to run in -- especially since most cities have these things called "Dog Parks". Sad. I hope they come to their senses.

My previous and current Boxers have traveled EVERYWHERE with me. I drive to Florida from Indiana every other Christmas. I vacation with my dogs. They've been to Tennessee as well and stayed in a cabin. :) I do have to say it is getting easier to find pet-friendly cabins these days...
Also, there are places considered "adult communities" that do not allow children. Sometimes people just don't want to deal with small kids and they have every right to. Just as people who don't want to deal with pets... I myself searched when finding a rental until I found one that were willing to take my dogs.
Personally, I'd deal with a slobbering Boxer over a screaming kid ANY DAY!! :)
