Ok so I know I shouldn’t but every once and a while I’ll go take a look at craigslist and just take a peek at all the animals specifically dogs that people are trying to re-home. Stupidest thing I could do considering I know I’m going to come across a dog I really like, but can not get. grrr I found and fell in love with an adorable boxer baby someone is trying to re-home and as much as I like I know I can’t take her and it breaks my heart.

I look at craig'slist everyday...and usually stop in to look at the pets also...can't help it, like to torture myself. She's a really pretty boxer.

It's so hard not to go and look. I was checking out Athens animal control site and fell in love with a border collie boy as well. I think I'm going to drive myself mad if I keep this up because whenever I check out craigslist I usually type in boxers and read those ads first and of course seeing all those babies really does kill me especially since I can't bring any of them home

I go to craig's list daily too. I look at the lost and found and the animals. Its pure torture but I can't help myself!

That boxer is so pretty! She should get her fixed before going to a new home... otherwise she could end up victim to someone that just wants to get her for breeding.

I don't understand why moving to an apartment is such a big deal? I lived in an apartment while Tango was growing up. As long as you take them out and give them a good run daily, there is no reason why it can't work. I guess it's just an excuse for some people .....

^^^Alot of the excuses used seem to be pure crap. And it just pisses me off...Hate the 'we don't have time for the dog anymore' or the 'having a baby, can't keep the dog' or the 'they don't allow animals', really don't have time for the dog, well, make time.....having a baby, so lets just get rid of another member of the family, geeze people are crap...then..why move to a place that doesn't allow animals...I'd do whatever I could to keep mine....these 'flimsy, dumb people are a huge reason why the shelters are so full....I do feel somewhat sorry for the people who are being forclosed on, since I know a great deal of families going through that do to the ecomony and really no fault of their own.

I agree, and it is complete bullshit! So they are the dumbasses that can't keep their dog and then to top it off THEY want a rehoming fee! THEY should be paying the adopter for caring and giving the dog a home that they obviously can't provide because they are to ignorant and damn lazy to deal with a loving creature. Dog, cat, turtle wtf ever. Crap like this really pisses me the F$%@ off.

The rehoming fees usually piss me off too...I think the rehoming fees are just a load of crap, they want money because they can't take care of their pets??? Sounds RETARDED and greedy, just feel bad for the animal...

I hate people!!

I actually respond to the ads myself and give them names of rescues... Even if they're not close. I know that MNBR (Minnesota) and GABR (Wisconsin) transport dogs across the country just to make sure Boxers get into the right homes. Most of the time the people aren't mad, they just don't know any better. Most respond with a thank you believe it or not! Not to say it doesn't PISS ME OFF, and if all they're looking for is money, it's not going to help, but I'd rather try to give them some info than see a precious Boxer like the one in this ad go to a bad home :( She sure is beautiful, darn it.

also, just by replying to a craigslist ad, I was able to pull two Boxers myself out of animal control and got them into rescue... (A guy found a Boxer, placed ads, was unable to keep him in his apartment and had to take him to AC. When I went to pull the original Boxer, there was another one there as well and rescue took him too! :)

i agree with rehoming fees. if someone cannot pay the 100 or 150 for a pet how can they take care of it? also it keeps people more legit. We had a huge issue once on Craigslist with some lady going up and getting all the "Free" dogs and than reselling them!

a dog is different than a child, please stop equating the 2. as many different places we've lived, we have never come across a house that said..NO KIDS. never come across and apt that said NO KIDS. people have to get rid of dogs for various reasons...and most are legit. dont think for a second just because you have been able to find a rental property that allowed pets that everyone else can. if we had to move back into town, im not sure what we would do with our dogs. there is not one single property owner that allows pets in our area.

Actually, many people feel their pets are a member of their family, one of their "furkids". People such as myself actually, so it would be like getting rid of a family member to me.
If you consider lack of time, too destructive, had a baby, moved, to be good and legit reasons to get rid of a dog (these are 90% of the excuses given)then you should reconsider getting one to begin with. These are poor excuses and these can be overcome with a little effort, but many people don't want to put forth the effort. Dogs are not disposable items to be tossed aside when they become a burden. They can't talk and say how they feel, they can't take themselves to the doctor, can't fill their own food bowls and pour their own water. They are TOTALLY dependent on their owners and deserve to be taken care of and loved no matter what.
And, we used to have residential rental property. Kids can actually be more destructive than animals. We had holes in the wall from thrown items, ink on the walls from them drawing pictures, stains on the carpet from spilled koolaid that wouldn't come up, etc. We thought we were renting to decent people too, they didn't look like trash and appeared to be clean and tidy. So, in many instances I'd rather have a well trained dog in my house than an unsupervised and undisciplined child. In many instances, if you talk to property owners and let them meet your dogs (assuming they are potty trained and not destructive) they will consider letting you keep them in their rental.
I actually sent an email to this lady with the dog on craigslist giving her suggestions on how she could keep her boxer. I find it a poor excuse also. I'm sure there is a park or area somewhere she could take the dog to for running and exercise. Even two good walks a day would do. They adapt very nicely if given a chance. That is just an excuse for not wanting to take the time to try.

Hmmmm...maybe not in 'BFE' Missouri...but, I've known MANY places that don't allow children, for good reasons...Like RaShann stated, I've seen damage like no other when it comes to children...coloring on the walls, in vehicles, stains beyond belief on carpets, etc....and in my opinion, my dogs are just as important as my child. So STOP saying there's no equating because there is, obviously not with you. You made it perfectly clear what your priorities are. You look down on me because I do equate..well, I look down on people like you because you don't. And I don't respect people with the 'easy come, easy go' motto for the animals in their lives. Love is love is love..in my opinion...the greater for all things, the better. And you bet your ass I'd do everything in my power to keep my dogs, my children, my everything with me, no matter what. Back to rentals...I've had a couple rental properties, and I've always allowed pets because I consider pets a valued part of the family... and have never had any problems as far as the pets go...but I'll never rent to people with small children..so And unlike you, I find most of the craig'slist excuses for getting rid of their pets, just...well, just cruel.

I agree Deb, I tend to find these excuses cruel. Truthfully, a boxer just wants to be with it's owner. That dog is so gorgeous, and she is just happy to be with her family. My first boxer, I took him all across the country with me. From small one bedroom apartments to a spacious three bedroom house where we lived alone. He never cared -- he just wanted to be with me. I always provided for him the best I could, and I took the commitment seriously when I originally got him. I took him to college with me in a small college town where nobody has big dogs, and he was everyone's surrogate dog, loved by everyone.

Everyday I see street kids in NYC living on the streets with their dogs (often puppies). Those dogs break my heart, but I know they are happy with their people, and their people would be miserable without them. I don't think any of them give a shit about having a yard to run in -- especially since most cities have these things called "Dog Parks". Sad. I hope they come to their senses.

^^^^That is true, it doesn't matter how big or small my house is, or the room I happen to be in at the time, they're right there by me. Nothing like getting out of the shower every morning to 3 boxers laying on the floor in a very small bathroom...they wouldn't have it any other way..so there fore...either would I..And RaShann, I thought about responding to that add, because I don't see where apartment living would be that bad with a boxer, glad you did.

I whole-heartedly agree that pets are a part of the family... what about people who can't have kids?? I don't have skin kids but I DO have fur kids...

My previous and current Boxers have traveled EVERYWHERE with me. I drive to Florida from Indiana every other Christmas. I vacation with my dogs. They've been to Tennessee as well and stayed in a cabin. :) I do have to say it is getting easier to find pet-friendly cabins these days...

Also, there are places considered "adult communities" that do not allow children. Sometimes people just don't want to deal with small kids and they have every right to. Just as people who don't want to deal with pets... I myself searched when finding a rental until I found one that were willing to take my dogs.

Personally, I'd deal with a slobbering Boxer over a screaming kid ANY DAY!! :)

i also disagree with the rehoming because they are moving. Haley and jersey my boxer and boxer mix have been with me since my sophomore year in college. We lived in the dorms for a month (shhh) lol. THen to an apartment... than to a small house with a large backyard... than a larger house with small backyard.. than they moved ACROSS country with me in a 2 door saturn.. somehow we fit me... kyle.. the two of them.. two dogs crates.. a tv and all the clothes i could shove around everything. When i tried to find housing out here in utah that would allow dogs i kept coming up short. I called the people who had offered me a job and told them that if i couldnt find a rental that would allow them i could not accept the job. They helped me with local papers find something and all was well. Its possible it just takes more time.
